The biggest obstacle homeowners face when looking to fix or replace their roof is choosing the right person to do the job. After a damaging storm, they need to quickly get back to normal and perform the necessary roofing repairs. But that doesn't mean they should just choose the first contractor who knocks on their door. Finding a contractor who is trustworthy, honest, and professional may sound difficult - but below are some tips that can help take the worry out of the process.

Get local referrals. There is less chance of potential issues or scams when you choose a contractor from your community. They are more familiar with local rules and code regulations and have a relationship with area crews and suppliers. Look for manufacturer designations. Manufacturer designations are considered a badge of honor because the contractor must pass certain minimum requirements to be factory-certified (although, some manufacturers have more stringent requirements than others).  NAC has worked hard over the years to become a Master Elite® contractor with GAF, placing us among the top 2% of contractors nationwide and a Preferred Contractor with Owens Corning and Mastic. 

Research Better Business Bureau (BBB) ratings. Some contractors blow in right after a storm looking for work, so it’s important to look them up on the BBB website and make sure they have a good score. Check for proper licensing and insurance. At NAC, we have insurance for all employees and subcontractors and are able to provide a copy of our insurance certificate for validation. Being a Master Elite® Contractor, we are required to hold certain levels of insurance to keep our status. So, rest assured, even though we take every measure to care for your home and safety of everyone, we will be covered in the instances where it's needed.

Help with your claim.  At NAC, we will work directly with you and your insurance agent to help guide you through the process and help in any way we possibly can. We know it can be a confusing process and want you to feel 100% confident in the direction and the decisions you are making for your home project. 

Call North American Contractors prior to having your insurance adjuster out. This is extremely important! Most homeowners do not know that when you contact your insurance agent and request an adjuster to come to your home thinking you have damage, your claim actually starts! What does that actually mean? If the adjuster does not find enough damage to warrant a replacement, there will still be a claim processed on your home. With North American Contractors, if you call us first, we will inspect your home prior to the insurance adjuster. We would be able to tell you about your damage, ask about your deductibles and guide you on our professional opinion your options. If you do decide to file a claim, we would work with you and your insurance agency during your claim process.
